Organic or Local?

Organic or Local?
Which is more important for food choices?  Organic foods: free of pesticides that may have traveled a long distance?  Locally produced items: which may contain pesticides but have traveled less distance to our plate?

Check out this recent article by Tracy Fernandez Rysavy found in the September/October issue of Green American Magazine, a publication of Green America (www.greenamerica.org).

She discusses whether ‘Organic’ or ‘Local’ should be the number one priority when making decisions about the healthful foods you consume.  She has many valid points and references some great studies on the subjects of CO2 emissions and the carbon effects of pesticide use.  Feel free to share your comments at the bottom of this post; we would love to hear your thoughts.
